PRESS RELEASE

Stop the Bypass Blues - Sir George

Photo opportunity

At 4.30 p.m. today[Wednesday Oct 9], Sir George Young, Secretary of State for Transport will address the Conservative Party conference in Bournemouth. Meanwhile opponents of the Newbury Bypass will gather outside with a large banner 'Stop the bypass blues', a huge smiling sun and sing renditions of the 'Bypass Blues' song.

Around the country there are many other bypass schemes threatening communities including Salisbury, Bingly, Weymouth, Worthing.

Andrew Wood of the Third Battle of Newbury said,

"Most Bypass schemes are simply trunk road expansion cloaked in a veil of pseudo community benefit. In reality they often destroy valuable wildlife habitats, allow infill development and simply free road space to be filled by more traffic" He Continued "Lets put transport for people above roads for more traffic" ENDS
