Bypass protestors target Costain AGM

Tomorrow, Friday 6th September, hundreds of campaigners against the Newbury Bypass are expected to attend the annual general meeting of Costain, the company contracted to build the Newbury Bypass[1]

Many Campaigners have purchased shares in order to attend the AGM. Many others with banners, songs and messages of hope will be gathering outside of the meeting, both before and after the AGM.

Costain were recently the subject of a rescue bid by Malaysian company Intria. Under UK. comany law, Friday 10th September is the last day on which Costain's AGM may be held. It is essential for the companies continuaton.

A spokesperson for the Third battle of Newbury said

"The Government had to turn to a company financially on its knees to build this destructive and highly unpopular road scheme. Its not too late to stop this road and for Costain to establish an environmental reputation beyond compare"
