Dear Mr Haynes

I am writing on behald of the Third Battle of Newbury, a group of people currently attempting to protect the countryside around Newbury.

In the last few weeks, we have become increasingly concerned at the environmental disaster that has been caused by the release of crude oil from the Sea Empress in the vicinity of Milford Haven. It is clear that help will be required cleaning up the shoreline affected by this oil spill.

In this respect, we request that clearance work and evictions be temporarily halted on the Newbury bypass, for a period of no less than 10 working days, commencing as soon as possible, and no later than this week. The Third Battle of Newbury will pledge to mobilise approximately 500 people to assist with cleaning up the oil spill.

We would be grateful if you could let us know as soon as possible at what date it would be convenient for you to halt work.

Yours Sincerely
